Airports Monetization
Airport operators can explore an additional use for compatible terminal Wi-Fi: carrying eligible mobile-subscriber traffic for participating carriers. IDCTS starts with a complimentary venue-fit assessment of the network and operating requirements—not a revenue forecast or carrier approval.
New to this model? See how Wi-Fi monetization works for venue owners.
An initial review considers the following, not just the number of access points:
Existing access points, controller and configuration capabilities that can be reviewed for compatibility; no vendor or airport network is universally supported.
Passenger coverage and recurring eligible traffic in gates, lounges or waiting areas, plus available backhaul capacity.
Airport and network-operator authorization to review security, network separation, change windows and commercial approvals.
Under the current IDCTS program, qualifying venues receive a 50% share of eligible attributed offload revenue, subject to program terms and carrier approval, with no monetization program fees. Existing equipment may be usable after review; compatibility and earnings are not guaranteed. Optional managed Wi-Fi work is separate.
How airport offload differs
Under the current IDCTS program, qualifying venues receive a 50% share of eligible attributed offload revenue, subject to program terms and carrier approval, with no monetization program fees. Existing equipment may be usable after review; compatibility and earnings are not guaranteed. Optional managed Wi-Fi work is separate.
Airport IT & security
Review the existing APs and controller, authentication support, network separation from guest and operational systems, backhaul headroom and change controls. The design needs site-specific approval; isolation is not assumed.
Commercial & procurement
Confirm who owns the network, who can authorize participation and how eligible attributed revenue would be reported. For qualifying sites under the current IDCTS program, the venue share is 50% of eligible offload revenue, subject to program terms and carrier approval—not a fixed payout.
Airport operations
Identify passenger areas to evaluate, service constraints and suitable configuration and validation windows so a proposed change can be assessed without assuming an interruption-free deployment.
A supplied third-party presentation reports BWI Airport in Maryland with 242 existing access points, 74.79 TB of monthly offload, $31,817 in total monthly reported revenue and a $15,909 reported monthly property split. The reporting period was not specified. These figures are unaudited third-party reports, not an IDCTS-operated deployment, airport endorsement, forecast or guaranteed payout. They do not establish a per-access-point earnings rate.
Share the airport location and a work contact first. Add what you know about APs, controller, passenger-area coverage and network capacity; optional controller exports and Site Scout scans can provide more context. IDCTS reviews the request with your team before discussing feasibility, approvals and any configuration plan. Submitting a request does not qualify the site or authorize a network change.
No. Carrier-funded offload concerns eligible subscriber traffic, not guest ad impressions or passenger access fees. Any proposed network configuration must be reviewed alongside existing services.
Possibly. IDCTS reviews AP and controller capabilities, coverage and backhaul before proposing a configuration. Existing equipment is not automatically compatible; any required changes depend on the site.
The airport and authorized network operator should review technical compatibility, network separation from operational systems, change windows, security requirements and commercial participation. Carrier approval is separate.
No. Under the current IDCTS program, qualifying venues receive 50% of eligible attributed offload revenue, subject to program terms and carrier approval. Actual usage and revenue depend on supported devices, eligible traffic and network performance.
A third-party presentation reports 242 existing APs, 74.79 TB of monthly offload, $31,817 in total monthly revenue and a $15,909 monthly property split at BWI Airport in Maryland. The period is unspecified and results are unaudited, not IDCTS-operated or guaranteed; no per-AP payout should be inferred.
Could your existing Wi-Fi qualify for carrier-funded revenue? We’ll review your location, network details, and usage potential—at no cost.
Request an assessment for one venue or multiple locations. This is an initial fit review, not a security audit, carrier approval, or earnings guarantee.
Add one row per site and equipment group. Split mixed AP vendors or indoor/outdoor placement into separate rows. You can submit partial details for initial review.
